scanimage -L does not find any scanners

lsusb shows it as: Bus 001 Device 007: ID 0461:0340 Primax Electronics, Ltd Colorado 9600 Scanner

This is the first scanner I have come across that doesn't 'Just work' in Linux. Does anyone know how I can go about diagnosing the problem and getting the scanner to work? I wouldn't know where to start on this one.

I've done some cursory Googling. It doesn't look good. First, the name "Primax" was used for a lot of different models of incompatible scanners. Most of the web pages are now dead and gone. It's not supported in SANE: http://www.sane-project.org/unsupported/primax-colorado-usb-9600.html This tells you a bit about it: http://primax.sourceforge.net/index.html It says you need "pxscan". It provided this command: http://manpages.ubuntu.com/manpages/precise/man1/primaxscan.1.html If you can find that package, you might be able to install it with ``alien''.
