Hello list I have just bought SuSE 9.3 and upgraded my laptop from SuSE 9.1 The laptop is a mainly intel machine with a Centrino Dothan processor The CD/CVD reader is recognized as QS5 CD-RW/DVD-ROM SBW242C (/dev/hdc) The upgrade was not too bad, my setings and personal files were respected,The ATI vieo appears to be better supported, and it seems faster, but I have no sound and no modem working. Then I noticed that the /var/log/messages file was continually filling with the following error message : "Jun 18 22:09:10 mob Cal.hotplug[15929]: DEVPATH is not set "Jun 18 22:09:11 mob kernel: hdc: packet command error: status=0x51 "{ DriveReady SeekComplete Error } "Jun 18 22:09:11 mob kernel: hdc: packet command error: error=0x54 "{ AbortedCommand LastFailedSense=0x05 } "Jun 18 22:09:11 mob kernel: ide: failed opcode was: unknown The incessant message stops as soon as I remove the DVD and resumes after I have reinserted it. I made a second reinstall from the CD with no more success. I do not know what to make of it, and I'd be grateful if any of you shed some light on this difficulty -- ________________ Paul Ollion Proud Linux user - SuSE - 9.1

QS5 CD-RW/DVD-ROM SBW242C (/dev/hdc)
The upgrade was not too bad, my setings and personal files were respected,The ATI vieo appears to be better supported, and it seems faster, but I have no sound and no modem working. Then I noticed that the /var/log/messages file was continually filling with the following error message :

The incessant message stops as soon as I remove the DVD and resumes after I have reinserted it. I made a second reinstall from the CD with no more success.
I do not know what to make of it, and I'd be grateful if any of you shed some light on this difficulty --
Looks like an issue with laptop bios and recognition of the interrupts from inserting the drive on the fly. Does it happen if you close the laptop then insert the drive? -- ___ _ _ _ ____ _ _ _ | | | | [__ | | | |___ |_|_| ___] | \/
