Yes I know, but the prefered inclusion style that is advocated in that chapter (still evolving) have been: (1) used on and off the Net for a long time (before the invasion of AOL'ers), and (2) tried and tested. I have personally used that style since the early BBS days and later, Usenet.
If this is to be a newbie-friendly list, it seems unwise to presume that people are intimately familiar with several thousand RFCs.
No I don't presume that they have read any- that is why I am always polite and point to the source material for readinng. Before one goes out driving, one should know the rules of the road- same with the Internet.
Charles, I assume your post (lowering the quotation level in the above by one) is an example of what you consider to be correct practice -- right? Personally, I think it's a good example. It flows naturally and is easy to understand. Paul Abrahams

Yes. I like to trim my quotes and use a conversational style. I think this leads a more readable message and also save money for people who have to pay for bandwidth by the minute.
Personally, I think it's a good example. It flows naturally and is easy to understand.
