[SLE] LPRng vs lpd on SuSE 6.4
Hello, I have my HP LaserJet 2100 setup and printing finally. I may go ahead and change the drivers ala the Linux Printing Database just to see if I can finally squeak the the true 1200 dpi out of the printer. But in the mean time, I have a question/issue I'd like to address. I tried setting up the printer w/ YaST2, at first. Sometimes it finds the printer as a HP 2100, and sets it up. Other times it sees it as a HP ljet 5/5M, and sets it up. Regardless of _how_ YaST2 sees the printer, sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. So I decided to set up the printer using the original yast. Ok, so I select the mono, other printer --> HP ljet5 grey, 600dpi, which seems to work ok. Until I decided to change from lpold to lprng. Printing pretty much stopped. I haven't gone in and really dug around yet, but I am curious: is this something others have ran into? i.e. switching from lpold to lprng kills printing? Any suggestions as to what specifically needs fixed? Also, I am looking into actually getting network printing working on my lan. Does the 'administer remote printer' menu in yast work if the remote printer queue is lprng vs. lpold(lpd)? What about the 'Printer' icon on the desktop? Thanks for your time, Monte ===== "Here, catch! Don't worry, it won't bite...BBZZZZAAAAPPP!!!...much <snicker>" What an unsuspecting mechanic hears as he learns to never, ever, play 'Catch' with a bored electrician ;) Monte Milanuk __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!?
