Hello all, Nobody know if you can make CorelExplorer to work in SuSE 6.4 ? Is a very nice program. You must try it if you didn't tried until now. I tried to move file by file from corel linux to SuSE but ... of course .. segmentation fault. Nobody have the sources for CorelExplorer ? Mariuso, I have the feeling CorelExplorer is not an open source product. It does have some nice features. I also like the WordPerfect Office 9. It has its problems, but I am able to use it without a lot of effort. Unfortunately it doesn't seem to run on anything but the console. The installation script did not work on SuSE. I was able to get the individual apps from the WPO2K to run on SuSE. I use the Corel Explorer when I access my second box at work in order to compose a document. It makes nice "show and tell". People who aren't familiar with Linux can be impressed with the power of this tool. Unfortunately I have to qualify my demonstration with the comment "this part isn't really *Linux*" As far as getting it to work on SuSE, this may not be easy. I have the feeling that it can be done, but Corel built their products to run on Corel Linux. I hope they will expand the scope of their target after they get things off the ground. They've done some really impressive work. I don't mind paying for the WordPerfect Office. I always liked WordPerfect, and WordPerfect for Linux is a wonderful thing. The idea of WordPerfect for _Corel_Linux_only_ is an evil thought. As far as a nice file manager tool, the Konqueror in KDE2 is very nice. I'm putting my energies into working with the KDE folks to improve the KDE to the point where it is the best desktop on the planet. Corel has been in Linux for a long time. They've done some nice things with their Linux distribution. Unfortunately the tight binding between _Corel_Linux_ and Corel products for Linux makes me a bit uncomfortable. SuSE is true Linux. I'll stay true to SuSE as long as SuSE continues to put out a quality product that adheres to the spirit of GNU/Linux. I'll buy Corel products for Linux as long as they are the best products available in their domain. If they are Corel products for _Corel_Linux_Only_ I will not buy the products. Perhaps I need to give SuSE's office suite a try. I never spent much time with Aplex, but it did have a nice feel when I did play with it. I know this is far more of an answer than you asked for. I also did not give you the help you were seeking. I appologize for that. I just wanted to share my thoughts on this subject. In general I don't like to talk about other distributions or products that cmpete with SuSE's products on SuSE's mailing list. I find such behavior to be impolite. This subject is improtant enough to make an exception. hmmm, very possibale , Only the kernal and other GPL stuff will fall under the gpl , every thing esle thay can keep closed. Kind of like yast (propiertiary and closed) . But you can still come up with a clean room clone that serves the same function.

I agree with you hear. It realy is poor that it doesent work with suse. Weather this is due to pushing it out the door too quick , or simply htat they never thought to address it , or that suse does something diffrently , I amm willing to give them the benifit of the doubt and wait till there next releas or fix package ect..

This realy is of concern to a whole bunch of peaple. They are keeping there print driver system directly tied into ther corel(deluxe) version. Its right there on the we page for corel linux. As long as its doesent come from gpl stuff they can do. I dont like thefact that they do it that way , but they have that right. I think they would be realy shooting them selfs in the foot if they realy do try to tie it directly into corel linux. That would be the type of thoing expected of microsoft situation . There are a whole lot of us out there who realy want an office 2000 package but dont want to move to corel linux or what they consider should be the proper linux of choice for there office package. Like I said we can only whate and see.

A really wild thought...grabbing the DEB package file for CorelExplorer from
Corel's distribution CD (i.e. not source I guess) running it through alien
to make it into an RPM and then giving it a try under SuSE....
