I use SuSE 9.1 with kernel 2.6.8 vanilla, and everything is fine. Kernel 2.6.9 has recently been released, and I don't know if I should upgrade. Does anyone know if it is any good? It is ftp.kernel.org/pub/linux/kernel/v2.6/linux-2.6.9.tar.gz if anyone wants to try it.

It is working well for me here. I am using it on an x86_64 machine. One thing I found out about it is to configure capabilities into the kernel (security), not as a module. It also allows my power supply to power off on a shutdown, which it hasn't since I have had it (only a couple months). Its a winner to me. -- Joe Morris New Tribes Mission Email Address: Joe_Morris@ntm.org Registered Linux user 231871

2.6.9 running fine here. There were problems with the 2.6.8 kernel which caused them to release 2.6.8.1 almost immediately after 2.6.8. You might want to do some research on that.

I had problems with 2.6.8.1

Well 2.6.8.1 works here with Nvidia chipset but 2.6.9 doesn't make the nvidia.ko module. So avoid it if you have a MB and Nvidia chip. -- 73 de Donn Washburn __ " http://www.hal-pc.org/~n5xwb " Ham Callsign N5XWB / / __ __ __ __ __ __ __ 307 Savoy St. / /__ / / / \/ / / /_/ / \ \/ / Sugar Land, TX 77478 /_____/ /_/ /_/\__/ /_____/ /_/\_\ LL# 1.281.242.3256 Dump Microsoft Software - Stop virus email Email: n5xwb@hal-pc.org " http://counter.li.org " #279316
