Actually, it depends on your needs. If you want an office app that presents a monolithic desktop then SO 5.2 is your app. If you want to have the parts of SO 5.2 broken out so you can access them without firing up the monolithic desktop then either SO 6.0 or Open Office 6.0 will be the one. KOffice hasn't quite come to gether yet, and it may be a while before it reaches the sophistication of Open Office 6.0. Meanwhile, IMO, Open Office 6.0 is the one to bet on for the next year or so. But, this question may have to be reviewed every year, because KDE and KOffice have a higher rate of development. My 0.02 JLK
is so and open office the same

Amost. SO has printer drivers available that are propriatary and make easy printer connections, while OO depends on the Linux standbyes, lpd, CUPS and the rest. For me, the advantage is that OO includes, if you want it, the source. No propriatary security or privacy holes. JLK

It's rather simple... OpenOffice = Mozilla StarOffice = Netscape One is just the development branch of the other. One has addons that the other does not for various reasons. ->KOffice hasn't quite come to gether yet, and it may be a while before ->it reaches the sophistication of Open Office 6.0. Meanwhile, IMO, ->Open Office 6.0 is the one to bet on for the next year or so. But, ->this question may have to be reviewed every year, because KDE and ->KOffice have a higher rate of development. Well, I downloaded and installed KOffice 1.1.1 and tried my luck with KWord and it opened everyone of my .doc files..too bad it couldn't open my .sdw files. *sigh* It is coming a long nicely though. This release seems to have fixed some of the stability issues I was seeing...who knows. BTW...No open source suite has to "win" .. it has to give you a choice. Use what you like.. I generally don't get involved in (potential) religious debates, I think this one's a bit more clear cut. Star Office is heavy, but has more features, and provides me with capability of sharing files with the office (uses MS Office, pthooey). KOffice is light, easy, fast, and clean. So I have both, and choose not to make a choice. I use one or the other as the need arises. On Monday 17 December 2001 19:34, Landy Roman wrote:
