So why not open a terminal in SUSE and as root type init 3? I don't understand this... The gentoo install is stupid at stage 1 and the only reason peopel do it is for ego. Do you think that .... 2% speed increase maybe? Means anything to a user? No.
And why did you send this to me off list, if I read and replied to you I'm obviously on this list.
As being discussed on the list, the whole Reply to thing, You have to click reply to all, then delete the user, to reply to the list (webmail restrictions, stupid, yes!). And if you look at the time, I was falling asleep at the keyboard. I am sorry for that. Ego, no, It doesn't temp you with ease of use. And it does allow me to TRY another distro, just like Linux, it's about CHOICE. I never understand WHY people seem to have a problem with that.

If you do that with the reply to then you cause problems for some other list users. As I found out the other week. Just delete the address in the reply to field and pop in the list address, it's easy enough. You don't have to reply to all. -- ============================================== I am only human, please forgive me if I make a mistake it is not deliberate. ============================================== Xmas may be over but, PLEASE DON'T drink and drive you'll make it to the next one that way. I've done it a bazillion times, too. At work, they don't allow port 25, so I use my webmail (Horde?) client. There's no "L" option like in KMail, and for some reason this list (unlike many others I've been on) doesn't default to reply-to the list. It is a serious pain to have to then go into the address, delete one of the addresses (without deleting the other) and then send. It's almost 12 PM here, and I haven't been to bed yet. Time is not a valid source of how tired someone is. And doing all that seems pretty stupid, why not use a better mail client? Mutt comes with SUSE. As for choice, I don't have a problem with choice, I have a problem with people who think that because SUSE isn't going to take 3 days to install, and then need two security updates a day, and because it uses a GOOD installer and system like YAST that for some reason you'd need another distro to learn "The command line".... Type Init 3 as root and tell me how it's easier than Gentoo.

Wahoo! I have no been on this list long enough to see a real paradigm shift... When I started on the there were many many many bitches about Yast2 Now known as Yast.. It seemed no one liked Yast 2 for anything , many actually hated it.. Yast (1) was the only way to got etc. etc. etc. BTW to O.P. Setting up SSH and running X on another box is easy way to do admin. on another computer, your kids, mum, wife , husband ... anyone who is on your net especially... saves a lot of steps when you want to to Y(ast)O(nline)U(pdates) or maybe you want to keep an eye on where the kids go online ( You should, unless they are of adult age, keep and eye on that, just for safety sake. ) <snip> -- j "It's my job to be worried half to death And that's the thing people respect in me" (song lyric)

YaST1 was much faster than YaST2 and still is, well would be. I certainly had a dislike for YaST2 in the beginning, and even today I still occasionally wish I had YaST1 instead. But YaST2 is really good, albeit annoyingly slow on older machines. /Per Jessen, Zürich
