Has anyone figured out how to enable java support on these OO builds? Has anyone else had difficulty? -- JAY VOLLMER JVOLLMER1@MN.RR.COM TEXT REFS DOUBLEPLUSUNGOOD SELFTHINK VERGING CRIMETHINK IGNORE FULLWISE
It says in the known bugs or FAQ that java isn't supported yet. I'm assuming they want to get the Office Suite working well without introducing Java. Could I ask what you need with Java in an Office Suite? I'm not making fun of you..just curious. * Jay C Vollmer (jvollmer1@mn.rr.com) [020201 20:05]: ->"Anthony W. I've never been aware of a need for Java in an office suite, but StarOffice prompts for it - and finds the installed Java. I'm only asking because OpenOffice likewise prompts for it - but doesn't recognize the installed Java. I'm guilty of not checking the FAQ. Sorry for the question. -- JAY VOLLMER JVOLLMER1@MN.RR.COM TEXT REFS DOUBLEPLUSUNGOOD SELFTHINK VERGING CRIMETHINK IGNORE FULLWISE

I don't recall any earth change like that in anything I read. IIRC, Sun had tried to develop a Java office suite. It didn't work, so they bought Star Office (and possibly the German company that produced it). I think that, at one point, they were going to make Star Office a Java app, but they switched drugs, and released SO 5.2, which, while not Java, had that dreadful user interface. I started using SO under OS/2 back around version 4. Not bad at all. They lost me with 5.2. The 6.0 beta is nice. There is an awful lot to be said for an office suite that runs under a bunch of different OS's. Be well, Lissa -- INCORPORATION, n. It never was a java application. It used java for something..not sure what. I could never find the part of the suite that did..accept the browser but anyone using SO to browse the web is a loon ;) I've always told it not to install java support and it's always worked slow but fine. :) -----=====-----=====-----=====-----=====----- Ben Rosenberg mailto:ben@whack.org -----=====-----=====-----=====-----=====----- I'm out of my mind, but feel free to leave a message...

That's how you start the darn wordprocessor of Open-Office but how do you start the darn presentation program + excell-like program (how do you still call that in english, tableur in french). I read once it was something like "simpress". I installed the Open-Office version delivered by SuSE 7.3 (ppc and not ppc). Alain
File --> new or open :) It starts with the WP and you go from there. If you open a speadsheet up you can close the original WP windows. It's not perfect but it starts up and runs a hell of a lot faster for me without the whole desktop like interface :) * bartydeux (bartydeux@gminformatique.com) [020201 23:18]: ->Le Samedi 2 Février 2002 02:10, vous avez écrit : ->> > latest build once you install it how do you run the darn application ->> ->> soffice -> ->That's how you start the darn wordprocessor of Open-Office but how do you ->start the darn presentation program + excell-like program (how do you still ->call that in english, tableur in french).
