[opensuse] Problem with kmail4 after unsuccessful try to update to Kmail5

Hi, I was trying to update to kmail5 (current version Leap 42.2). However the result was so problematic (flickering, no possibility to use menue, malfunction of the IMAP) that I turned to Kmail4. But now it does not work anymore. a) filters do not work at all b) when trying to send the programm gives the following error message. Impossible to recover d-bus interface of the mailfilteragent. I would like to know if this can be fixed by starting some service or by installing some more rpm, maybe some forgotten dependency not drawn in automaticly? I would have tried to use Kmail5 / Kontact5 but as long as my system becomes a flickering discotec and no menue whatsoever in KDE can be used (because they all collapse within seconds, and the flicker of all buttons, etc) this will be difficult. So at least I would like to have the status quo back. Thank you. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

Flickering and mouse are not kmail problems. That speaks to a much different issue, such as something continuously crashing and restarting. I suppose you could reinstall kmail5 and launch it from konsole to see what if it is spitting out messages. As for dependencies, I've not has to chase those manually for years when installing from yast or zypper using opensuse repositories. Starting kmail forces the start of all of akonadi, which is a boat load of crapware used only by the KDE Pim suite, which seems a heavy price to pay for email. Therefore I don't routinely use Kmail any more. I use Thunderbird. When you add up all Tbird's dependencies and you add up all Kmail's dependencies other than kde itself, tbird is lighter. But Just for Grins, I fired up Kmail, configured it to access my local mail server. It went smoothly, I didn't even use the wizard. There were two issues: 1) as soon as I finished the setup and entry, it started syncing folders, and message headers (I did not select the option to download all messages, just the headers). This took quite a while because I have a boatload of mail on my local imap server. While that was happening it was fairly non-responsive. It just showed a little progress bar (expandable) on the bottom. 2) After doing that, I had to close Kmail and restart because I couldn't figure out how to get rid of the welcome banner. Other than that, Everything worked, but obviously I didn't test every little part. Mine is a pretty much bog standard KDE/Plasma5 install from Opensuse 42.2. The Big risk here is I might start to like this kmail again. Lucky it has an account import wizard from thunderbird. -- After all is said and done, more is said than done. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org
