The anser is NO, but you can log in as a user then 'su' to root. I would recommend that you use ssh instead, it does the same thing and is far more secure. e.g. ssh root@transistor -- Regards, Graham Smith ---------------------------------------------------------

I have to beg to differ. I work with machines that I log into as root with telenet. That's where all my employer's zone files are, on a VAX. Our other boxen I ssh to root. -- Bob Rea mailto:gapetard@stsams.org http://www.petard.us What do you say to Jesus when he comes again? Where have you been. You said you were coming right back.
Hi I remember that at least with 7.3 version there was "root_login_remote" option in yast configuration, and it was to permit telnet with root-access. Maybe You should search under /etc/sysconfig files for that entry..? Jaska. Viestissä Keskiviikko 25. Joulukuuta 2002 02:12, Bob Rea kirjoitti:

You need to edit securetty. This is not really a smart thing to do. You should use SSH and su. I would never allow root logins from remote. -- _ _ __ _____ _____ ___| |_ | '__| / __\ \ /\ / / _ \/ _ \ __| -o) | | _ \__ \\ V V / __/ __/ |_ /\\ |_|(_) |___/ \_/\_/ \___|\___|\__|_\_v rsweet@garagenetworks.net "unix soit qui mal y pense."
