Back to my problem .. I did not suggest any protocol. The user attemped ftp downloading.
I searched Yast2 for ftp and found many entries, some of which are installed. Since if I type fpt on my system such a command is executed, that is I myself can run ftp, I deduce ftp client is installed on my machine. I also guessed I would need to install fpt server to enable the user's download .. but I cannot recognize any ftp server package searching through Yast. If indeed ftp server is already installed then I do not know which Yast tool does the job. Presumably "NetworK Device" or "Network Services". I tried either one but got bogged down by the successive choices. I am not familiar with this specific nomenclature.
But you said you gave the user privileges on your system. How? Your answer is still incomplete. Ok, lets assume you created a Linux account, which means that your intention is to use ssh and scp. For this to work you need to enable the ssh server: install "openssh" in Yast, enable the ssh port in the firewall, run "chkconfig sshd on" and "rcsshd start". Maybe there is an entry to do this in Yast in one click, I don't remember - a year ago ssh was installed and enabled by default. Check that you can log in to your own computer, locally, and then remotely. Once this works, create a new account for your friend/colleague, and tell him to use an scp client (if he uses windows, there is one in the putty suite (winscp419.exe or winscp419setup.exe) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Winscp http://winscp.net/eng/docs/faq http://sourceforge.net/projects/winscp/ Don't forget to put the files in his home directory or one he can read. If he uses Linux, then he can use scp, mc, konqueror (fish://...), etc. Instructions in the respective man pages. If you want to use FTP, start by installing the Yast module for ftp server administration, then run it. Samba? Same thing. Questions or problems? Ask somebody else, not me. >:-) NFS? Same thing. http? Same thing. You have to decide what you want... - -- Saludos Carlos E.
