Correct me if I am wrong, but... The only "official" rpm updates that can be obtained is by using YOU. RPM's downloaded via APT are not "officially" supported by SuSE as they are not directly under their control. Use of any other packages are at your own risk. This does not mean that they will not work, YMMV. Ken Schneider
I am fully aware that APT is not supported by SuSE, and that's why I used "official" in quotes - i meant some RPM's that are accepted and used and tested - like the ones within the links specified by me... Anyway, is there anyone who's using APT for SuSE 8.2 RPM's and can tell me where to get it? Regards, Radu Ken Schneider wrote:

Let me correct you.

apt downloads and installs exactly the same rpms as YOU, they come from the same origin. Just check the pkg key e.g., it's just suse's. The pkgs are only stored in a different directory structure, to fullfill apt's repository layout. However, apt gives the possibility to reach other rpm repositories (usr-local-bin, packman, etc) via the same interface. The apt components that make the same repository that YOU uses are: base, update and kde. -- Richard Bos Without a home the journey is endless
I use APT with 8.2 but I have found that because 8.2 is still very recent and that there is still not yet a lot of stuff available. - 90% of the stuff I try installing via APT is the same version as what I already have (via the 8.2 CD's). - most of the stuff I have installed via APT comes from "usr-local-bin". Thank you James Ogley! Another thing with 8.2 is that, to my surprise, YaST2 looks after the dependancies a lot better than APT, because it will also install the other "needed" packages. Apt just stops and lists the required packages. Here today's sources.list from http://ftp.gwdg.de/pub/linux/suse/apt/SuSE/8.2-i386/examples/sources.list.FT...
