[opensuse] How to remove KMail (w/configuration) from openSuSE v12.1
Because I have become discouraged in trying to get KMail v1.3.6 (what came with oS v12.1) properly configured, I want to remove it (preferably ONLY KMail, and not the whole of Kontact or of KDE v4.7), and install it again from scratch. That is, I want to remove also the present KMail configuration settings as well, because I believe that they are corrupted. I thought that I would find those settings somewhere under the ~/.kde4 directory, but that appears not to be the case -- or I have not recognized it. WHERE is the Kmail configuration stored in this version? I am undecided about whether the reinstallation should again be KMail 1.3.6, or the fallback to the Kmail version in KDE3.5. If I decide on the latter, I would prefer to leave KDE v4.x as it is, as it is my impression that most difficulties in KDE4.x are in the mailer. My understanding from reading on the 'Net is that this is possible, but I would like the comments of others about feasibility etc. -- Stan Goodman Qiryat Tiv'on Israel -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

You are asking essentially the same question as George Olson in thread "opensuse 12.1 kmail/kde3 application and uninstall of kmail2" so you may want to follow that thread as well, in case the answer appears there. BTW, I don't know the answer (i.e. how to clear out all the kmail2 configuration prior to reinstalling it) but I am interested in it, for the same reason as you and George. So far I have found the following out of the Kmail handbook FAQs: 6.16. Where does KMail save my settings and my mail? Most KMail settings are stored in $KDEHOME/share/config/kmailrc, where $KDEHOME is typically ~/.kde. From version 4.4 Akonadi-controlled entries are stored in the following folders and files: ~/.local/share/ ~/.config/akonadi/. ~/.kde/share/config/nepomukserverrc ~/.kde/share/apps/nepomuk/ (KAddressBook stores contact groups in Nepomuk.) Note that some of the files are hidden: remember to also copy those if you want to backup or archive your mails. So when I get back home this evening I am going to try deleting all the files in those folders. BUT BEFORE I do that, if anyone has any warnings on something I should not delete, please caution me? I went back to the kmail from the 11.4 repo - roughly described in the following forum post and the thread referred to the message: http://forums.opensuse.org/english/get-technical-help-here/applications/4698... This is working reasonably well except that the NZ English spell checker keeps disabling itself (but that may be a pre-existing unrelated issue). Just remember to skip the updates for these downgraded packages, a bit of a hassle, but manageable. I'm not sure what I'm going to do long term. Maybe someone will fork kmail. Bob Williams wrote:
