Sendmail relay (smart host), fetchmail and smtpd (configured with YaST2).
Dear friends... I am maintaining a LAN based on SuSE Linux and windows client. I builded a SuSEfirewall, a proxy server with squid and the an e-mail gateway on the same machine with SuSE Linux 7.0 . I succeeded it. internet browsing and e-mail sending ran properly. I configured the e-mail gateway with YaST2 at that time. But now I managed to upgrade the OS from SuSE 7.0 to SuSE 8.0 but strange, the squid server was still running properly after the upgrading but the e-mail gateway didn't work anymore. I tried to reconfigure the smarthost with YaST2, I filled all of the paramaters asked there but it still doesn't work up to now. I have openned port number 25 and 110 on my SuSEfirewall2. I do not know about much squid, but for trouble shooting purposes I would by pass the proxy server just to see if it will work. Or make sure the proxy server is not prohibiting you from the email. Just a quess!! -- Bob Barish BMT Solutions IT Manager
