[opensuse] #2 SL DVD content to #1 DL DVD?
Anyone know if isos made from 2 standard DVDs can be burned to 1 double layer DVD? If not, would there be some convenient way to use K3B to get the content from 2 standard DVDs onto 1 DL DVD? -- "Unless the Lord builds the house, its builders labor in vain." There is no _seamless_ way to do that. You can store 2 ISOs as is, but if those are 2 bootable operating systems, then everything becomes complex - you may need either to merge packages+repo (Linux) or files (Windows), and setup bootloader/boot sector. -- -Alexey Eromenko "Technologov" -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

I have 2 movies (#1 and sequel) recorded off satellite onto 2 DVDs that I want to copy onto 1 DL DVD without any quality degradation. Is it possible to get both movies onto 1 DL DVD without having to play each movie and capture it to disk, which would degrade the quality? My standalone HD DVD recorder is too old to know what a recordable DL DVD is, otherwise that's how I would do it. -- "Unless the Lord builds the house, its builders labor in vain." I believe you could loop mount the iso's, which if they are DVD videos should be vob files under VIDEO_TS, and burn those files under a new dvd project in k3b. I would suggest using Devede though to create a nice menu, and set it to only create the dvd structure, and add those vob files with it, then burn the resulting files under its VIDEO_TS directory with K3b. -- Joe Morris Registered Linux user 231871 running openSUSE 10.3 x86_64 -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

I copied VIDEO_TS from each DVD to VIDEO_TS[1,2] on HD, then tried to open Devede. It claims dep to both mplayer and mencoder. YaST2 can't find mencoder to install. Is that like videolan in needing some special repository to be configured (I'm on 10.2)? software.opensuse.org/search can't find it either. :-( Even if I had them, your instructions aren't clear what to do with Devede vs. what to do with K3B. :-S -- "Unless the Lord builds the house, its builders labor in vain." Haven't you install MPlayer (maybe from Packman)? It includes mencoder, as well.
I installed MPlayer-1.0rc2-4.pm.4 from Packman, but DeVeDe claims it can't find: mplayer mencoder -- "Unless the Lord builds the house, its builders labor in vain." Psalm 127:1 NIV Team OS/2 ** Reg. 1. uninstall MPlayer and DeVeDe. 2. install DeVeDe from Packman then, 3. install MPlayer from Packman
That allowed DeVeDe to start, but it is unusable. When I try to change the title from Title 1 to something meaningful, a tiny, non-resizable window opens with a bunch of radio buttons. All the text for the radio buttons is overlapping, so I have no idea what they are for. My system is running 144 DPI, and DeVeDe is obviously not intended for use on high resolution systems. :-( -- "Unless the Lord builds the house, its builders labor in vain." Even if I had them, your instructions aren't clear what to do with Devede vs. what to do with K3B. :-S
Devede was to make sure the files were consistent, and to provide an easily created menu to start both. But if your resolution reveals a bug in Devede, then it may not be too helpful. K3b would just burn the DVD files (bup, ifo, and vob files) to the disk. It does no checking, etc. If it is a long video, I would assume there are multiple vob files, i.e. VTS_01_1.VOB, VTS_01_2.VOB, etc. These are broken down because of the file sizes. I believe the 01 corresponds to the first movie, so the second would be 02. So from the 2 isos, you would need to rename all of the second isos files accordingly in the projects VIDEO_TS folder. That should work except no menu. The menu is VIDEO_TS.VOB, i.e. no numbers. Technically you could use another program, but I have had good success with Devede. You could try ManDVD from Packman, though I found it more limited. Sorry, not sure what else to recommend. -- Joe Morris Registered Linux user 231871 running openSUSE 10.3 x86_64 -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

I gave up. ManDVD was rather intuitive, and I think I almost got there. But, I couldn't find any way to make it use a DL disk. Devede I just couldn't figure out. -- "Unless the Lord builds the house, its builders labor in vain." Psalm 127:1 NIV Team OS/2 ** Reg. If you renamed the files consistently, you should be able to just copy the files from the loop mounted isos into k3b to be able to burn the DL disk without a menu. For example, if you have 2 VTS_01_1.VOB files, when you copy the first one to k3b, rename it in k3b to be after the last VOB. So if the last file is VTS_04_1, make the first from the 2nd iso VTS_05_1.VOB (the same with the IFO and BUP files. That should get both isos onto one DL media and still be playable, just no menu. It will just play the files in order. I copied all DVD content to 2 separate tmp dirs on HD.

I appreciate your attempt to help, but menus are essential. Using a 5X more expensive disk to hold 2 unchaptered and unthumbnailed movies instead of 1 with custom thumbnails and chapters per much cheaper disk makes no sense to me. -- "Unless the Lord builds the house, its builders labor in vain." I had similar problem last year, having to make a two hours very good definition video dvd for my wife theater perforance (to copy to the actors) but in fact I was said (and confirmed by many) than many DL readers don"r read well DL dvds... so I stopped and did copy two SL dvds (even cheaper). DL are not worth the work. (burned ones, different from pressed ones like openSUSE ones) jdd -- Jean-Daniel Dodin Président du CULTe www.culte.org -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

what is the content of the isos?? bootable disk, video disk, data?? if only data, it's easy. If you want them to boot, impossible, video depends... jdd -- Jean-Daniel Dodin Président du CULTe www.culte.org -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
