I'm trying to install a system with an ancient, low-grade monitor. Is there some way that I can get some sort of text-based install, rather than a GUI/"pretty" one?????? I can't see a bleedin' thing after it starts to go through the INIT process. AURGH!
Is anyone running software Raid 1 on SuSE 7.1 with reiserfs formatting? I cannot seem to get the Raid to work with this new kernel even after following the how-to. The only difference is I am using reiserfs instead of ext2. Thanks,

I believe you have the option of using "yast1" or "yast2" when the install begins. If not, try booting off of the 2nd CD. The 2nd CD used to boot directly into "yast1" IIRC. -- Christopher W. Try entering `manual' at the LILO-Prompt when booting from the install CD/Disk. This should start a YaST1-based install. I don't know if this still works in 7.1, though. Yes you can at SuSE 7.1. The install insructions indicate to boot off of CD-1 and at the "boot:" prompt enter "YaST1" within 3 seconds. -- Christopher W. Yes, there is a text-based install. Just enter "manual" at the boot prompt, and there you go. BTW: that should be documented in the FM :) LenZ -- ------------------------------------------------------------------ Lenz Grimmer SuSE GmbH mailto:grimmer@suse.de Schanzaeckerstr. 10 http://www.suse.de/~grimmer/ 90443 Nuernberg, Germany The heart is wiser than the intellect.
You can also hold the ctrl key down before you get to the boot prompt. When you do ths the words ?"Yast2 runs in text mode" appears at the lower left corner of the screen. This is in The Suse 7.1 Handbook on Page 15. At 09:53 AM 3/15/01 +0100, Lenz Grimmer wrote:

I wish they would put this info somewhere on the splash screen that comes up with the boot prompt. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- John Karns jkarns@csd.net
If you get frustrated enough to abort the install you break into the text install too. :-) John Karns wrote:

Gee, that would be too easy. This is linux! -- Stephen Ing Technical Support/Telecom Specialist sing@jps.net
