Re: [SuSE Linux] pppd and kppp ...
I also had similar problems setting up my USR Sportster Flash. (The problem seemed to go away by itself...) I was given a number of Initialisation strings by kind people on the list - but, for what its worth, whether I used a long complicated string or just "ATZ" didn't seem to make any difference! Its now working 100% with just "ATZ" Richard King <A HREF="http://www.channelafrica.org"><A HREF="http://www.channelafrica.org</A">http://www.channelafrica.org</A</A>> -----Original Message----- From: Brian Armstrong <brian@zba.com> To: suse-linux-e@suse.com <suse-linux-e@suse.com> Date: 02 December 1998 01:36 Subject: [SuSE Linux] pppd and kppp ...
Hello,
I've been pulling my hair out trying to get pppd and kppp working together.
I've now got it as far as dialing and trying to Login to the ISP's Network but the following error is reported in /var/log/messages:
pppd 2.2.0 started by root, uid 0 Using interface ppp0 Connect: ppp0 <--> /dev/modem LCP: timeout sending Config-Requests Connection terminated ioctl(TIOCNXCL): I/O error Exit.
My pppd timeout in kppp is set to 90 seconds, and my modem timeout is set
to
120 seconds.
My modem is a US Robotics 33.6 VoiceModem. I have been unable to find any standard init strings for the USR 33.6 so I don't know where to begin. I've set my Init Delay to 3, and my Guard Time to 5.
If I dial from a Windows session everything is fine, so I'm unsure where my error could be.
I've ensured that the /etc/ppp/options file is empty, and that /etc/ppp/pap-secrets contains the appropriate parameters, and that the PPP arguments in kppp have been set according to the instructions in the kppp help file.
Thanks for all help.
Brian Armstrong.
PS. My SUSE version is 5.3.
