SuSEPlugger, Gnome, 9.3 - getting it to make up its mind.
Hi, I saw the other thread about deactiving SuSEPlugger, I tried removing the autostart kde desktop files and still joy, so the harding coding as mentioned has stated to become a pain.. The problem is, seems like if SuSEPlugger, and SuSEWatacher dont load correctly, i.e. end up being trucked away in the Gnome system tray panel, then my KDE Wallet goes kaput and I cant ftp sites in Knonqueror... So now I'm resorting to rebooting the machine a couple of times until the Plugger and Watcher ends up in the system tray... I then, also, have to manually start/click KDE Wallet just to make sure its loaded (for the latter othwerwise seems like at some point during the working session kde wallet hangs and I cant then ftp sites as usual). fwiw, while trying to upgrade from 9.1 to 9.3 I backed up the wallet files and assumed that if I placed them in their respective locations upon upgrade I wouldn't of lost the passwords etc... I dont recall the export xml feature but might of been in a rush... anyhow ended up kde wallet wouldnt do much with these binary files, so I tried to unistall kde utils --- didnt happen --- added info here in case cause of my woes etc... Apart from that pretty please with the upgrade, learn something new each time.. Is there going to be an official patch Plugger/Watcher, it would be preferable if it could happen for 9.3 and not just rectified in 1.0. -- devosc

I simply rename the binaries to something that SuSE doesn't find: /opt/kde3/bin/DAMMsuseplugger /opt/kde3/bin/DAMMsusewatcher

Just make sure you have the "Notification Area" gnome applet up and running, and those applets from kde will get inside correctly. - -- Cheers, Carlos Robinson -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.4.0 (GNU/Linux) Comment: Made with pgp4pine 1.76 iD8DBQFDEP2dtTMYHG2NR9URAlrRAJ9SyZT4sT25eh2M/LdWpvqBmg5rSwCeL9mb gf9DSLYrig3SGSSUg3HPfQA= =CMpS -----END PGP SIGNATURE-----

Nope, even with the Notigication area, KDE tools does not always end up in teh Notofication area. I normally get this fixed by logging out of the Gnome session, drop to a terminal and kill all processes belonging to my user (Normally there are some KDE prosesses still running) Then, I restart X and log in again. Normally that would get the KDE apps to be put in the notification area. Very anoying. PS: I have not checked to see if this has been fixed in 10. -- Andre Truter | Software Engineer | Registered Linux user #185282 ICQ #40935899 | AIM: trusoftzaf | http://www.trusoft.za.org ~ A dinosaur is a salamander designed to Mil Spec ~
