It looks like SuSE has updated the KDE RPM's today on their FTP site. I wonder if SSL works now? -Tim -- ----------------------------------------------------------------- Timothy R. Repeating a falsehood won't make it true. There has never been a problem in the suse packages with ssl on my machine. They have always worked on my machine. This is clearly a configuration problem. Anders On Thursday 16 August 2001 23:33, Timothy R.Butler wrote:

Well, then there was a problem with SuSE's RPM's f**king up the configuration of an existing install of 2.2 Beta1 because it happened on my machine..worked with 2.2 Beta1..went to 2.2 Final and things changed. So clearly there was a problem. I downloaded the kde.org rpm's and over wrote the ones from the suse ftp site..doesn't matter who made them. It fixed the issue with out opening the kcontrol panel an mucking with settings that were already there. Just because one doesn't have doesn't mean another will not have an issue. Quite a few people have had issues. We can't all be having a mass delusion? *grin* Cheers! It's fixed either way :) * Anders Johansson (andjoh@cicada.linux-site.net) [010816 14:36]: ->Repeating a falsehood won't make it true. Dunno about that, seen a lot of Win users claiming there machines work great, only to find out that they blue screen and crash once a week. Yet they have been delusioned. Of course its different, I had a few issues and still have one with Konq. By the way, anyone using Mosfet's liquid scheme? Matt
Hi Matt,
By the way, anyone using Mosfet's liquid scheme?
Yes, it's pretty nice. It doesn't look identical to Aqua, but it has a similar feel. I should not though that it still has some annoying redrawing issues, so I don't really recommend it for production system use. By the way, Neil Stevens has said that he is working on a new Liquid-based widget set too. I recommend keeping an eye out for that one. AFAIK it will be released under the BSD license rather than the QPL, which is a very nice thing - and also means it may be included in KDE 3.0... -Tim -- ----------------------------------------------------------------- Timothy R. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying there aren't issues with the 2.2 release, because there are. I had konqueror crashing on me in the beginning, for example, and I've also experienced the sound server problem I've seen others talk about. It's just that he was saying that the packages were compiled 'without ssl support', which is clearly wrong, because if they were, there's no way it could function on my machine. Another person wrote in saying how he had fixed his problem with missing ssl support by changing a setting, yet Tim ignored all this, and kept insisting the packages were compiled wrongly. Anders,
changing a setting, yet Tim ignored all this, and kept insisting the packages were compiled wrongly.
Actually, I didn't ignore any one saying anything, although I may have missed where someone said that. However, my copy of the RPM's from suse.com _told_ me that "SSL wasn't supported in this build." Maybe it's because I have 7.1? Maybe it's because my OpenSSL was old (I updated because the KDE.org RPM's wouldn't install without it)? Maybe the prelinked RPM's on SuSE's site don't support SSL, but the unlinked ones do? I dunno, but I'm running with the same KDE config I had using the SuSE RPM's and SSL works. The only reason I'm "insist" that the one was compiled wrong is that it doesn't work and the KDE.org ones do. This seems to be the case for Ben too. But so that I'm clear on my first question in this thread, let me phrase it another way. Does anyone know if the updated SuSE rpms have the same problems with SSL in certain instances that the older ones had? Anders, I will look over the past few days messages and see if I can find the fix you refer to. I've been busy restoring my system (I installed a new hard disk), and haven't had time to read SLE as much as normal.
