Netscape 6.2.2 question
I have been trying to figure out which Mozilla version it is based on, and AFAICT it is still based on .9.4 (or .9.4.1 maybe. Does anyone know? I have it downloaded, but I would lose more than I want to switch from Mozilla .9.8. TIA for any info. -- Joe & Sesil Morris New Tribes Mission Email Address: Joe_Morris@ntm.org Web Address: http://www.mydestiny.net/~joe_morris Registered Linux user 231871

As far as I know Netscape 6.2.2 is based on Mozilla 0.9.4.1.
I have it downloaded, but I would lose more than I want to switch from Mozilla .9.8.
I would suggest to update to Mozilla 0.9.9 or to use one of the latest nightly builds (0.9.9+) of Mozilla. At least I don't need Netscape's add-ons. HTH! Bye, Steffen

I've been using both Netscape 6.22 and Mozilla 9.9. As far as I can tell, they both work together well. Why not try it? You can always downgrade if necessary. Just back up your data first. JHS

When I decided I was tired of updating IE5.5 at work on all the work stations on our office network, I debated switching to Mozilla for mail and browsing, but there was no spell checker for Mozilla. I did some checking and found out there would never be. I installed Netscape 6.2, then 2.1. SO I would understand their problems, I started using Netscape 6.21 in Linux. Not bad. When Mozilla came out with S/MIME support (which I have missed in Mozilla since switching from Netscape 4.7x) in IIRC .9.7, I switched back to Mozilla. I was hoping Netscape 6.2.2 had that feature included now. If it is based on .9.4.1, it doesn't. I tried Mozilla .9.9, but had so many 'new' bugs in the Mail program (which I use more often than the browser due to time constraints), I switched back to .9.8. I will update the work stations to NS 6.2.2, but will stick with Mozilla till NS is again S/MIME compliant (like it used to be ;-) ). BTW, I upgraded my kids computer's NS 6.2.1 (Windows) to NS 6.2.2, and the stability has improved greatly. -- Joe & Sesil Morris New Tribes Mission Email Address: Joe_Morris@ntm.org Web Address: http://www.mydestiny.net/~joe_morris Registered Linux user 231871

<snip> Netscape 6.22 *does* have a built-in spell checker. You enable it in the preference menu. I've been spell checking all my emails. John

Yes, I know. I said MOZILLA is the one without the spellckecker. That is the reason I went with Netscape (for Windows) at work, because of the spellchecker. If 6.2.2 was S/MIME compliant, I would go ahead and install it, but without it, I will just wait. The new Netscape 6 series is looking pretty good, but it still lacks some of the functionality of the 4.7x series. Mozilla suits me until then. ;-) -- Joe & Sesil Morris New Tribes Mission Email Address: Joe_Morris@ntm.org Web Address: http://www.mydestiny.net/~joe_morris Registered Linux user 231871

Out of curiousity, what functionality is missing? J
->Out of curiosity, what functionality is missing? I people will miss ability to have software make up for a lack of education when it comes to spelling words and using a dictionary. ;) -=Ben --=====-----=====-- mailto:ben@whack.org --=====-- "I've never been quarantined. And of course I look like a hairbrained idiot because I left out the word "guess" in the sentence below.. I guess I just slink back off and do some work. *laugh* * Ben Rosenberg (ben@whack.org) [020329 11:49]: ->->Out of curiosity, what functionality is missing? -> ->I people will miss ability to have software make up for a lack of education when it ->comes to spelling words and using a dictionary. ;) -> -> -=Ben --=====-----=====-- mailto:ben@whack.org --=====-- "I've never been quarantined. /snip/ I consider myself to be a damned good speller of the cockamamie English language, but I have the American Heritage Dictionary permanently in my Windows taskbar. Nobody's perfect. (I don't usually use spell-checkers, as I use a lot of words they never heard of, being in the RF/microwave/wireless engineering business.) --doug
