Hello all, is anyone else receiving garbled fonts from Thomas Adam or is it my machine? Everytime I receive a mail from Thomas, I have to hit the reply button to read it. Is this my machine or his? I can't paste the actual look of his mail over here, since my fonts override his when replying or pasting. no offense Thomas, just making sure my machine is Ok. -- David M. Yes, I' m receiving garbled fonts too. I'm using SuSE 6.4, xf86 3.3.6, Kmail and KDE 2.1.1. It seems that something is misconfigured in my machine. Messages from some other posters shows weird fonts too. BTW, Konqueror in some sites (babelfish.altavista.com , for instance) shows very ugly fonts. The same site is fine with Netscape. I have tried every setting (except the right one) in kde, kmail and konqueror configuration menus with no results. Cláudio On Saturday 29 September 2001 10:44, David McGlone wrote:

Interesting. The fonts within certain KDE applications - Star Office -
are truly horrible when using the Toshiba portable, but are fine on the
desk-top.
All mails from this list are okay - but I'm still using That Which
Should Not be Named for the internet..
Best wishes

Im sorry everyone for not posting the answer to the list. Me and B. Marsh has figured out the problem to this. it seems Mr. Thomas, and Mike Cleary are using the the utf-8 fonts instead of iso-8859-1 fonts. Now some people say they can read these fonts just fine, and I can too, but only when I increase my font size to 14 or greater. A simple solution is to have everyone make sure they are using the iso-8859-1 fonts, but then what I don't know is if they can do it or not because of their languages. Im not sure, maybe I can check with these individuals and see if it is possible for them to make the switch. Mr. Thomas and Mike, would this be possible? Thanks -- David M. Ok, I just looked into this problem and found a solution. In Konqeeror go to Settings->Konqueror Browser and click on the tab Appearance. At the bottom you will see an option called "Default Encoding" use the pulldown menu to select iso 8859-1 and check the "Enforce default Encoding Charset" and then click apply, now go check out www.babelfish.altavista.com. It should appear just fine. now I am going to see if Kmail has anything similar, I will let everyone know if I find a fix so no one will have to change their charset. -- David M. Ok, I have found a solution to the Kmail problem! I am specifically aiming this E-mail to Mike Cleary and Thomas Adam. in Kmail go to Settings->configure Kmail -> then click on "composer" in the left hand side, then click on the tab "charset" at the bottom, uncheck the checkbox "use own default charset when replying or fowarding". You can also use the pulldown menu to select your default charset. I hope this works. -- David M.
