Graphical user interface doesn't come
Hi, I need some help, I have sony vaio rx 580, and suse 7.2 pro. roblem is after i nstalled the system at the very firt time Graphical user interface came out ( which shows desk top and CD rom, and KDE etc.) But after i reboot second time GUI doesn't come up. And just the lines. I installed Default system with office. Can any one help me whats going on and what i need to do? thx emin

The GUI will start automatically if you change your default runlevel to 5. This can be done in inittab. I personally like to use runlevel 3, which just boots Linux to the command prompt. Then, if I want to start the window manager, I use the startx command. You can optionally pass it the name of a window manager, such as enlightenment, and it will start that WM for you instead of the default. This works for me, because sometimes when I boot, I only need the command line and don't want to wait for the GUI to start up. Except that, when I run SuSEconfig, it keeps changing my runlevel back to 5 in inittab, for whatever reason. Anyone know how to stop that from happening? I can't find anything in /etc/rc.config for that. --Jason Van Cleve

Set CHECK_INITTAB="no" in /etc/rc.config or via YaST and then it won't keep
setting you back to runlevel 5. Remember to run SuSEconfig if you don't use
YaST.
