I am using SuSE V* with KDE 3.0.5 and Samba installed on a small network. Presently I use a windoze package for faxing via a serial port Fax/voice/modem, however this is single user and only available from the windoze NT pc. This modem is separate to my internet connection which is via ADSL broadband. I am still finding my way around Linux so am not looking for a complex solution. However I would appreciate suggestions on which software may be suitable for faxing from my small network using the KDE desktop. I would prefer integrated sending/receiving/viewing. I have been looking at various packages, including Hylafax but from what I have seen so far it is perhaps "too heavy" for my needs?? All suggestions appreciated. Gooday John, What is "too heavy" about Hylafax. It can be used as a single client or for your entire network. SuSE has a nice GUI interface for it, making it very easy to use. I prefer the quick command line. I have used Hylafax for 1000s of faxes over several distros, and versions. It has worked flawlessly. It will read both postscript and PDF files to fax. Can also be used with SAMBA for your windows clients. This same functionality for a windows based fax server, I have seen advertised for $1200 US for windows.. it is *free* in Linux. You cannot go wrong with Hylafax in my opinion, either as a single client or network server application. -- Gary sed '/^[when][coders]/!d /^...[discover].$/d /^..[real].[code]$/!d ' /usr/share/dict/words
On the subject of fax software, does anyone know of any that will work over the Internet (i.e. I send my fax like email to a server for it to be sent out)... Just want to avoid ANOTHER phone line... => On Tue, Jan 14, 2003 at 03:31:29PM +1100 or thereabouts, => John Blue wrote: => > KDE desktop. I would prefer integrated => sending/receiving/viewing. There are supporting programs that go along with Hylafax for specific needs. Looking at Hylafax.org FAQs, http://www.hylafax.org/HylaFAQ/Q901.html I am sure there are others too.

I'm using Suse 8.1 and now I would to connect a Okipage Laser Printer model 14e shared on a Windows XP Pro PC to my Suse Workstation. I set the yast wizard to share a network printer, then I select SMB protocol, but I don't see the printer. Have anyone the same problem? Kalos

Yeah, there have been a couple of new releases announced on freshmeat.net for lightweight faxing solutions. One is xfax and the other is efax. Go to http://freshmeat.net and search for fax. -- use Perl; #powerful programmable prestidigitation

From the printer menu (dialogue window) in any kde app use the option sent to fax. (I don't know what end driver is needed though). -- Richard Bos Without a home the journey is endless
