[opensuse] Monitor resolution not as stated in Yast
Hello I just reinstalled OpenSuse 10.3 after Grub resulted in 99 99 99 .. or Error 21 after yesterday's update went wrong. Yast Sax2 X11 Configuration: Monitor: Card and Monitor Properties: Card: NVidia GeForce 6150 Monitor: ACR ACER AL2216W Properties: Resolution: 1680x1050 (WSXGA+) Colors: 16.7 Mio. (24 bit) (In reality this monitor like most big LCD now on the market only supports 16 bit, badly dithering to 24 bits: a marketing scam that should be met with a lucrative class action law suit, but i'm not in the USA). I am using the default open source driver, but the resolution currently in use is smaller then the one correctly recognised and stated by Yast. How can i correct this ? As much as I dislike using it, I was able to fix a very similar problem (different nvidia card and monitor, same resolution) by switching to the binary nvidia driver. Have you tried that? -- Sonja Krause-Harder (skh@suse.de) SUSE Research & Development ----------------------------------------------------------------- SUSE Linux Products GmbH GF: Markus Rex, HRB 16746 (AG Nuernberg) -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Yes, it works, thanks for your fast and helpful reply Sonja. But i don't like the spyware coming with non-oss drivers. I like keeping what i type to the recipients i choose.

This is completgely uncalled for and without basis. You do *not* know any truth in the statement you have made and are spreading fud! At least nvidia *is* contributing the the linux effort even thou many do not care for the closed source. You might as well be back on windoz as you are acting as a M$ shill, with your fud. If you want to *bitch*, do so, but at least have facts to back up your statements. -- Patrick Shanahan Plainfield, Indiana, USA HOG # US1244711 http://wahoo.no-ip.org Photo Album: http://wahoo.no-ip.org/gallery2 Registered Linux User #207535 @ http://counter.li.org -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

You claim that there is spyware in the nvidia drivers? Not only would this sort of thing would be very difficult to hide in linux, it would also be a major scandal. Do you have tcpdump traces with the evidence? Joe -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
