(or ide disk for that matter) I have a drive i suspect if failing, and i want to shake it up a bit to see if it really is the drive or the controller card.. -- /Rikard --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Rikard Johnels email : rjhn@linux.nu mob : +46 70 464 99 39 --------------------------Public PGP fingerprint------------------------------ < 15 28 DF 78 67 98 B2 16 1F D3 FD C5 59 D4 B6 78 46 1C EE 56 >

Check the manufacturers web site. Many now have a downloadable test programs to check out the drives (to avoid returns). These will do a good job to check out your drive(s). -- Joe & Sesil Morris New Tribes Mission Email Address: Joe_Morris@ntm.org Web Address: www.mydestiny.net/~joe_morris Registered Linux user 231871

Most (if not all) of them are DOS based, so you probably will need a bootable DOS floppy to run the program. Jim 02/23/02 10:10:01 PM, "Joe & Sesil Morris (NTM)" <Joe_Morris@ntm.org> wrote:

You could of course use non MS products such as DrDos or Open Dos ;-) On Sunday 24 February 2002 13:19, Rikard Johnels wrote:

Very cool tool. Thanks for the pointer. The link I found for it is: http://service.boulder.ibm.com/storage/hddtech/dft32ug.pdf It still requires the creation of a bootable floppy (it creates an IBM DOS bootable floppy). But, everything is contained in the download and there is no need to track down anything else. Again, thanks for the pointer. I am going to download it for myself.
