OpenSUSE Tumbleweed equivalent of /etc/init.d?
Hi, I'm trying to install VMWare Workstation Pro 16 onto my Tumbleweed system, and the installer is asking for the location of system scripts. I'm not entirely sure where that location is on Tumbleweed. Can someone point me in the right direction, please? Thank you. Simon.

They don't exist any more. TW uses systemd instead. The old location may exist, but I don't know for sure if it will work on TW. On Leap, current Vmware Player installs fine. -- Cheers / Saludos, Carlos E. R. (from oS Leap 15.1 x86_64 (Minas Tirith))

Hi, The directory doesn't exist on Tumbleweed and the installer won't progress without that information. What is the systemd directory? I'll try that. Thanks. Simon.

That is impossible to answer. If the product is compatible with systemd, it has to be able to use it without asking questions, it is standard issue. Anyway, there is no single systemd directory. -- Cheers / Saludos, Carlos E. R. (from oS Leap 15.1 x86_64 (Minas Tirith))

What? /etc/init.d/ exists on my TW $ rpm -q -f /etc/init.d/ aaa_base-84.87+git20210616.9cf42ff-2.1.x86_64 See also: man systemd-sysv-generator It's a part of systemd, which for every file in /etc/init.d/ automatically creates a systemd unit.

This directory is marked as ghost in current aaa_base, which means it is not created during package installation. You updated from older Tumbeweed and kept it.

sysvinit script needs to be enabled to start automatically and all tools to manage them have been removed from Tumbleweed. It may work if you manually create necessary links.

If installer cannot proceed without /etc/init.d, just create it. You will likely need to manually configure services so they are started at boot.
