Re: [SLE] Dual booting SuSE73 and Win XP
Thanks David, Perhaps I should have been a bit more explicit. Because I work in an area that uses several operating systems often dual booting, I have set up my computer so that it has Windows98 (in the first partition), WindowsXP(in the second, replacing 2K) and SuSE7.3 (in the third). This worked fine with NT and 2K. The actual order of the partitions is necessary for windows. Re-installation would be a lot of hassle especially if I couldn't guarantee the results. Eddie ----------------------------------- I have xp and 7.3 on my laptop with no problems, both booting from lilo OK. XP will need to be in the first (NTFS) partition of your drive (except for a small boot partition, if you want it). So if you installed xp AFTER 7.3, that may be the problem. You could use Partition Magic to move the relevant partitions or do a re-install - XP first, then 7.3. Hope that helps! David On Tuesday 05 February 2002 15:27, you wrote:
I have SuSE 73 and Win XP. XP has replaced my 2K installation on my machine. However, I found after installing XP, lilo would not run. It only got as far as LIL. I used the 1st SuSE CD to manually boot my linux partition and then restored lilo to the MBR and now XP refuses to start. Restoring the MBR allows XP to start but lilo fails again, even if I run it from a floppy.
Has anyone got any ideas as to what is going on, where to start or how to fix it? I know how some of us feel about MS windows but please can we forego the MS wise cracks. I would be grateful for any practical advice.
Thanks
Eddie
