[SLE] power failure run fsck manually
He everyone. Had a powerfailure in the middle of big Gimp session. Now get: /dev/hdc3 contains a file system with errors. Check forced. /dev/hdc3: unexpected inconsistency. Run fsck manually Can see all the files there but can't run X or do anything worthwhile. What a pity after such a successful three months with Linux. Any ideas as to what to do anyone? How do you 'run fsck manually'? Best wishes from Steve & Clara at FeF, Spain. <!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.0 Transitional//EN"> <HEAD> <META content="text/html; charset=iso-8859-1" http-equiv=Content-Type> <META content="MSHTML 5.00.2014.210" name=GENERATOR> <STYLE></STYLE> </HEAD> <BODY bgColor=#ffffff> <DIV><FONT size=2>He everyone.</FONT></DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV><FONT size=2>Had a powerfailure in the middle of big Gimp session. fsck -t ext2 /dev/hdc3 fsck -t ext2 -a /dev/hdc3 (which automatically confirms prompts) fsck -t ext2 -c /dev/hdc3 (to check for bad blocks) The -v option is the verbose option I had exactly the same thing happen to me, which is why I now have an UPS attached to my box. Recovering from my failure I noticed that some files became directories and some directories became files, requiring me to do some manual repairs and re-installs of some software, all in the perl directory.
