I have had the same thought. A news group would be nice. What happened to me today is but one example of why a NG would be advantageous. My mail server was moved from one server to another. That's just plain bad system administration on their part. If they're moving the server and the user database is not complete, they should turn off sendmail or disconnect the ethernet so anyone who tries to send them mail will get a fail but the mail will be queued up and as long as they finish the conversion in a day that should get you your mail since almost every server will retry for more than a day to send mail, approx every 4 hours.
It would be nice to be able to search for answers that have already been posted to questions. This could cut down on repetition. I also have a problem managing the large amount of mail that I get. Being on mailing lists, especially ones as busy as this, causes my mail management problem to increase greatly.
You should try procmail if you haven't already, it's almost required if you're going to do mailing lists subscribing.
As far as spammers go, kill 'em! Well, perhaps we could have a closed news
