I can't seem to get output from suse3 (using apsfilter and lpr) to suse1, which has the printer. Local output from suse1 to its own port works well. Here's /etc/printcap for suse1: # ascii|lp1|ljet4-letter-ascii-mono-600|ljet4 letter ascii mono 600:\ :lp=/dev/lp0:\ :sd=/var/spool/lpd/ljet4-letter-ascii-mono-600:\ :lf=/var/spool/lpd/ljet4-letter-ascii-mono-600/log:\ :af=/var/spool/lpd/ljet4-letter-ascii-mono-600/acct:\ :if=/var/lib/apsfilter/bin/ljet4-letter-ascii-mono-600:\ :la@:mx#0:\ :tr=:cl:sh: # lp|lp2|ljet4-letter-auto-mono-600|ljet4 letter auto mono 600:\ :lp=/dev/lp0:\ :sd=/var/spool/lpd/ljet4-letter-auto-mono-600:\ :lf=/var/spool/lpd/ljet4-letter-auto-mono-600/log:\ :af=/var/spool/lpd/ljet4-letter-auto-mono-600/acct:\ :if=/var/lib/apsfilter/bin/ljet4-letter-auto-mono-600:\ :la@:mx#0:\ :tr=:cl:sh: # raw|lp3|ljet4-letter-raw|ljet4 letter raw:\ :lp=/dev/lp0:\ :sd=/var/spool/lpd/ljet4-letter-raw:\ :lf=/var/spool/lpd/ljet4-letter-raw/log:\ :af=/var/spool/lpd/ljet4-letter-raw/acct:\ :if=/var/lib/apsfilter/bin/ljet4-letter-raw:\ :la@:mx#0:\ :tr=:cl:sh: # ### END apsfilter: ### ljet4 letter mono 600 ### BTW, I don't have DNS set up. The address for suse1 is 192.168.1.10. Here's how apsfilter set up /etc/printcap on suse3: # 192.168.1.10-lp|lp1|192.168.1.10-lp|192.168.1.10 lp:\ :lp=192.168.1.10:lp\ :rm=192.168.1.10:\ :rp=lp:\ :sd=/var/spool/lpd/192.168.1.10-lp:\ :lf=/var/spool/lpd/192.168.1.10-lp/log:\ :af=/var/spool/lpd/192.168.1.10-lp/acct:\ :ar:bk:mx#0:\ :tr=:cl:sh: # ### END apsfilter: ### remote 192.168.1.10 lp ### ### BEGIN apsfilter: ### remote 192.168.1.10 lp0 ### # Warning: Configured for apsfilter, do not edit the labels! # apsfilter setup Thu Jan 31 16:48:12 PST 2002 # remote|lp2|192.168.1.10-lp0|192.168.1.10 lp0:\ :lp=192.168.1.10/dev/lp0:\ :rm=192.168.1.10:\ :rp=lp0:\ :sd=/var/spool/lpd/192.168.1.10-lp0:\ :lf=/var/spool/lpd/192.168.1.10-lp0/log:\ :af=/var/spool/lpd/192.168.1.10-lp0/acct:\ :ar:bk:mx#0:\ :tr=:cl:sh: # ### END apsfilter: ### remote 192.168.1.10 lp0 ### The error I get is lpr:lp:unknown printer -- "We demand rigidly defined areas of doubt and uncertainty!" -- Vroomfondel
