Cannot activate Java plugin with Mozilla v1.0

Hi Folks, I have a problem with my SuSE v8.0 install complete with Mozilla v1.0 and Java v1.4.0_01-b03 in that any attempt to access a page which requires Java support causes Mozilla to fail. I have trapped the following error message: INTERNAL ERROR on Browser End: Exec of "java_vm" failed: 2 < System error?:: No such file or directory Gdk-ERROR **: Fatal IO error 9 (Bad file descriptor) on X server localhost:0.0. INTERNAL ERROR on Browser End: Could not read ack from browser System error?:: No such file or directory I have tried Java plugins from different JREs (v1.4 and 1.3 releases) but always with the same problem. Of course Netscape v4.79 works without problem! Does anyone have any ideas as to the possible cause? Kind regards, Simon

This is what I've got linked in /usr/local/mozilla/plugins: lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 60 Aug 19 14:15 libjavaplugin_oji140.so -> /usr/lib/j2re1.4.0/plugin/i386/ns600/libjavaplugin_oji140.so and I've had no difficulties with it. I do remember that various strategies don't work, e.g. copying the plugin physically to the plugins directory. HTH Fergus On Tuesday 27 August 2002 16:27, you wrote:

Hi Fergus, Thanks for the hint. I tried creating a sym link to the plugin within j2sdk1.4.0 but still got the same problem. However when I tried v1.4.0_01 all worked fine. Kind regards, Simon Fergus Wilde wrote:
