Hello, I am downloading (as i type) the basic packages for suse (a1,a2,d1,d2,doc1,n1) are the packages kde1 and kde2 necessary for a base install? The purpose of this install is so that i can do a NFS install after i get PPP working, i dont know if kde is required for PPP or NFS to work. please respond asap. Thank you, Chilini (David Kettmann) - To get out of this list, please send email to majordomo@suse.com with this text in its body: unsubscribe suse-linux-e

No. KDE is the K Desktop Environment. It is a window manager and a bunch of apps for X. You don't NEED it to get linux going, but you might want to take a look at it later on, but take a look at WindowMaker too!
