I'm a little slow on servers. Is it correct to assume that with my apache server someone can view a webpage going through my IP address to my box while I'm using my computer to do something else? How would this be done if it is possible? Shop Safely Online Without a Credit Card http://www.rocketcash.com

Yes. If you are connected to the internet, and have apache installed/running, then someone on the internet can view pages that you are hosting on your computer (assuming nothing else is firewalling them out). What pages would they see? By default, they would see the SuSE help system. You can see what they would see by going to http://localhost/ -- Rocky McGaugh rmcgaugh@atipa.com
My boss just said that he wants to order M$ Front Page so someone in our department can create web pages for our group. I would like very much to get away from M$ and since Front Page is just one more way to get locked into M$, I want to suggest something in the Linux world. Can anyone suggest Linux software for creating/editing web pages? I remember a similar thread last year but don't remember much about it since at that time I wasn't interested in web pages. Please help me convince my boss to use SuSE linux instead of M$ Windoze. Damon Register
a very nice html editor for windoze is also allaire homepage of coldfusion studio... but in any case, wysiwyg html editing sucks because the language is too badly formulated to allow a computer to produce it. my advice: rather than to invest in a product and a site license, have your boss pay the guy to go and learn html properly and then use vi. seriously. tell your boss that a wysiwyg editor won't create html but pretty-something-which-may-work and that i personally find sites in the IT business made with a text editor to be giving a far more competent image of the company. martin [greetings from the heart of the sun]# echo madduck@!#:1:s@\@@@.net -- "i believe that the moment is near when by a procedure of active paranoiac thought, it will be possible to systematize confusion and contribute to the total discrediting of the world of reality." -- salvador dali

Take a look at Quanta. It is possibly not quite as powerful as Front Page, but it is very nice for most uses in my opinion. *************************************************** Powered by SuSE Linux 7.0 Professional KMail 1.0.29.2 Bryan S. How would this be done if it is possible? Yes, this is true providing they have a route to your IP =o) -- ...ooO(The Purple Tiger)Ooo... ...ooO(Powered by SuSE Linux!)Ooo... ...ooO(PGP Key available upon request)Ooo... Key fingerprint = CA 82 C6 18 1E 21 17 04 E8 F2 FC 6C 96 F6 A8 73
