I am just trying out Suse Pro 9.2. Everything is working well, except the fonts in the Firefox menus and bookmarks list are way too big. Gaim has a similar problem. All of the KDE apps look fine. I never had this problem with fedora, so it is very frustrating. I am very impressed with suse overall, and want to continue using it. Any help would be appreciated. Jeremy Baker

I posted a message earlier this month in the thread with the subject "YaST and others with old-style GTK widgets" in which I recapped the solution I got from another poster (Thomas Börkel) on the SuSE-KDE list (Subject: How smooth is the KDE update from the "supplementary branch"?) back in December of 2004. Here is that message:

I've installed a couple of machines with 9.2, and in each of them YaST has the brushed metal look with graded and shadowed buttons. I've just installed a third machine, and on this one YaST (and GTK apps) come up with a GTK look from around 2000, with clunky square buttons and general old-fashioned look (and some user-friendly no-nos, eg dark blue progress bar over black text).
The same thing happened to me when I used the supplementary update to install KDE 3.3.2 on my 9.1 system.
The eventual solution turned up in the message thread titled "How smooth is the KDE update from the "supplementary branch"?" which began on Dec. 8, 2004 (<http://lists.suse.com/archive/suse-kde/2004-Dec/0052.html>). This particular issue is first mentioned in message 59 (<http://lists.suse.com/archive/suse-kde/2004-Dec/0059.html>) of that thread.
When I applied the solution pointed to there (<http://www.boerkel.de/linuxtipps.html#mozTocId580997>) all was back to normal.

If I knew what file contributed the functionality, I might be able to determine what package it came from, but I am at a loss as to where they might reside. All I can tell you is that I'm running Pro 9.2 with KDE 3.3.2 Level a Jeremy

The package that contains this functionality is gtk-qt-engine-0.6-2.guru.suse92.kde33
Thanks. The closest named package installed on my 9.1 upgraded to KDE 3.3.2 level "a" is gtk-qt-engine-0.3-44. Where did you get this package? From the Guru's RPM site (<http://linux01.gwdg.de/~pbleser/>)? I don't see it there, in either the SuSE 9.2 or the 9.1 section. It appears that package is not available for SuSE 9.1. The closest match in the 9.1 section is gtk-qt-engine-0.5-1suse91.i686.rpm. However, <http://rpm.pbone.net/> has a listing for this package: <http://rpm.pbone.net/index.php3/stat/4/idpl/1609431/com/gtk-qt-engine-0.6-2.guru.suse92.kde33.i686.rpm.html>. but the link it refers to cannot be retrieved. On a lark, I took the binary package download link from the above rpm.pbone.net listing page and substituted "91" for the "92" and successfully downloaded a package. It'a about 8KB bigger. But I'm not sure I want to mess with my GTK setup, right now. It took me a while to get it working right after that last major release of KDE packages...

I just downloaded the package from http://www.freedesktop.org/Software/gtk-qt and installed from source on my 8.2/KDE 3.3.2 box. Works well enough. The KDE Control Panel applet lets you select a KDE style and/or default font to be used for GTK applications. MySQLAdmin wasn't to be recognized. Regards, -- Andreas Philipp Noema Ltda. Oops. Editing error. That last sentence was supposed to have been deleted. The source package cannot be retrieved, but the binary is accessible, both the 92 and 91 I got by manually editing the URL.
