My MIDI sound is not working with my i815 soundchip and SuSe 8.0. I have downloaded the upgrade and configurated it with alsaconf, but it's not working more, the driver is the correct one, the snd-intel18x0.o. Only the PCM sound is OK, timidity is working fine. With Mozilla, it's strange: if the link is a direct link to a MIDI file, it's working, but if the MIDI file is linked with an embed tag in the code of the page, all i get is a little comment at the bottom "running helper..." and no sound at all. If i try with configuration, son, MIDI in the kdm menu, i get at i have no MIDI port. In the config menu, sound, mixing console is not working at all. Kmidi is working but i can see the leds taht go up and down, but i hear nothing. With kmid, it's worse, i get only a crash with signal 11 from it or kdm. The sound part of the module.conf is as follow: # Aliases for OSS # alias sound off # alias midi off # OSS/Free setup alias sound-services-0-0 snd-mixer-oss # uniq.virtual:Sound card # # --- BEGIN: Generated by ALSACONF, do not edit. --- # --- ALSACONF verion 0.9.0 --- alias char-major-116 snd alias snd-card-0 snd-intel8x0 alias char-major-14 soundcore alias sound-slot-0 snd-card-0 alias sound-service-0-0 snd-mixer-oss alias sound-service-0-1 snd-seq-oss alias sound-service-0-3 snd-pcm-oss alias sound-service-0-8 snd-seq-oss alias sound-service-0-12 snd-pcm-oss options snd snd_major=116 snd_cards_limit=1 snd_device_mode=0666 options snd-intel8x0 snd_index=0 # --- END: Generated by ALSACONF, do not edit. --- Can somebody help me with to fix this problem? I'm sure at it must be a possibility to have the seuquencer working. I have proved with timidity as server, but i don't now how i must configure the MIDI ports to have them to work, all i get is a message like what timidity was working and att it was 2 Midi ports, but back in configuration, sound, midi, nothing is here.. Thanks Dominique Michel

Well, i have done some experiment. If i try to run kmid as root from a terminal, i get the interface but nothing else. just a few messages as follow: DCOPServer up and running. Each time i click to play come: Player :: There are no midi ports ! And when i quit the program: FOO:/home/dom/Desktop # kdeinit: Fatal IO error: client killed kdeinit: sending SIGHUP to children. kdeinit: sending SIGTERM to children. kdeinit: Exit. Mutex destroy failure: Périphérique ou ressource occupé sh: dcopserver_shutdown: command not found I have take a look with ls and i get lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 9 jun 21 23:07 /dev/dsp -> /dev/dsp0 crw------- 1 dom users 14, 3 jun 21 23:07 /dev/dsp0 lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 11 jun 21 23:07 /dev/audio -> /dev/audio0 crw------- 1 dom users 14, 4 jun 21 23:07 /dev/audio0 lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 10 jun 21 23:07 /dev/midi -> /dev/midi0 crw------- 1 dom users 14, 2 jun 21 23:07 /dev/midi0 I'm very tired with this problem and i need my sleep. Have anyone a suggestion or a clue to what i must prove to do? Dominique Michel

Does anyone have any experience using cordless desktops under KDE3 (SuSE 8.0)? I'm trying to decide which desktop to buy, but would like one that is fully supported (including mmedia keys for instance). Any tips? Regards, Pieter

I have the Logitec one. No problems with it working in SuSE8 (works good with earlier versions too). One thing that you run into is you don't have that handy-dandy battery monitoring software. It's something you can work around though by either checking it in Windows once in a while, or just replacing the batteries regularly (as in every 3 to 6 months or more if you don't use it much). You can map the extra keys anyway you want including the mmedia keys. I use mine for things like the EURO symbol etc. C. On Tuesday 27 August 2002 20:48, Pieter Hulshoff wrote:
