[opensuse] Internet access through Firefox
Hi, It might be a very trivial problem but as I am quite new to Linux, I can figure it out myself. I have SuSE 10.1 x86_64. I can access internet through Konquror only. None of the other browsers are working. I have Installed Firefox (the latest version available) but the result is all the same. Except Konqurer all the other browsers are having timeout in HTTP request. I would appreciate your guidence very much. Please throw some light to it. Bikram Chatterjee just a wild guess: You have configured a proxy in konqueror that you did not setup in firefox, opera, you name it?

Thanks for your reply. I have checked Konqurer, there is no proxy configured. And neither in firefox. Also while installing firefox I have imported all the settings from Konqurer. Any other possible difficulty you see? On 4/19/07, Eberhard Roloff <tuxebi@gmx.de> wrote:

Well no, this looks crazy to me. What I would do: 1.in a terminal (ex. in konsole) ping www.opensuse.org (just an example, you can use your favourite webpage here) if it does not work: (as root) rcSuSEfirewall2 stop ping should work now. If not, make it work. Actually, strictly speaking, this does not say to much about your network, but for a start, I would ensure that www.opensuse.org is basically reachable via ping. 2. in a terminal (ex. in konsole) w3m www.opensuse.org You should see a very basic textual version of the website now. As long as this does not work, you should make it work. After it works, any other Browser (Konqueror, Firefox, Opera, Internet Explorer with Linux...) should do, just as well. Another option: Start firefox as root (very insecure!!!, just for test) for example with this: 1. ssh -X root@localhost 2. give root Password 3. firefox Final option (needing some basic network knowledge): Install wireshark (a very good graphical network scanner) with Yast. Then start it up and set it to record your network traffic. Afterwards startup firefox and see what is recorded, when it fails to connect to the internet. While timeouts are not strictly symptom of active IPv6, it is usually just slow load, you may try this: http://en.opensuse.org/Firefox http://en.opensuse.org/Disable_IPv6_for_Firefox -- Regards, Rajko. http://en.opensuse.org/Portal -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
