you auto updates from private server
I've been looking at the YOU auto updates in suse 8.2, and I'd like to make it so that my machine will automatically download updates from a server I specify (another one of my computers). Is this possible? I think it would work if I configure YAST2_LOADFTPSERVER="no" in the file /etc/sysconfig/onlineupdate on the client machine. Then I'd have to like comment out all the entries in /var/lib/yast2/you/youservers (I'm assuming /etc/suseservers is obsolete since there is no reference to it in /etc/sysconfig/onlineupdate) and then add my server to /etc/youservers. And on the server side. Do I just have to have a certain directory for the updates, does there have to be a certain tree format or can I just point the client to ftp://ftp.myserver.com/onlineupdates (or whatever I name the direcory). Also, would this work for a url as well or does it have to be ftp? Someone please let me know if I'm way off base here ;). Thanks, Nathan Mayotte

Sorry, I don't remember, but it is possible O:-)

Yes - from the i386 part onwards (i386 included).

I did it for 7.3 and 8.1. I used '/srv/ftp/pub/suseupdate/i386/update/8.1/' - can't be more detailed, because I removed the contents, but below that the structure is the same as you find in '/var/lib/YaST2/you/mnt/i386/update/8.2/', ie: /var/lib/YaST2/you/mnt/i386/update/8.2/ |-- patches |-- rpm | |-- i586 | `-- noarch `-- scripts There is one more detail: you can use every thing on that 'you' tree, except 'patches/*' - that directory you have to get from the external ftp server you use. You modifies the files there, I think to know what is installed or something. -- Cheers, Carlos Robinson
