[SuSE Linux] StarOffice 5.0 and SuSE 5.3 - Step By Step ?
Here's my experience, step by step. Take so50_01.tar.gz and un-compress in your home sub-directory as ~/so50 . Then go to ~/so50/glibc2_inst and as su root, run ./soprep and put the files in /opt/Office50/lib when asked. (I edited /etc/ld.so.conf and added /opt/Office50/lib already.) Then I exit and run ./setup from ~/so50/office50_inst and my prompt dissappears for a few seconds comes back and nothing ? What exactly else should I be doing to get setup to work ? Thanks I ran setup in X, after setting up the libs, cause the installation is graphical, the setup routine is similar to Win95's install shield, you'll get a type of graphical menu. I never ran it from the console, maybe

Yes, I'm doing this all in X. Thanks. I've followed your directions but no go on my box. The fix for them was to switch X servers temporarily to SVGA install SO5, download the patch, apply it and then switch back to SV3. Is there a way you can test to make sure it's not a hardware issue or a software issue that relates to the X Server itself 'getting along' with SO5 ? Or even contact them to make sure it's not some problem it's having with Accel X +/- your particular video card setup. At this point, it might be a good idea to give 'em a call and see if someone that actually works with/at Stardivision, can advise you on why you are getting the segfault, or see if there's someone you know--perhaps on this list-- or elsewhere with a similar setup to what you have and see if they are experiencing the same issues. I'm sorry. I know this must be rather frustrating for you...right now, I'm frankly as stumped as you are. -M - To get out of this list, please send email to majordomo@suse.com with this text in its body: unsubscribe suse-linux-e Check out the SuSE-FAQ at <A HREF="http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/</A">http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/</A> and the archiv at <A HREF="http://www.suse.com/Mailinglists/suse-linux-e/index.html</A">http://www.suse.com/Mailinglists/suse-linux-e/index.html</A>

I got a similar reaction, except that I also got a message about not being ableto create various icons. People at Star Office said it was probably the graphics (Matrox G200 AGP) card...They are working on it

Well I have the same card. Wonderful card and SO 5.0 would look great under it. -Dee - To get out of this list, please send email to majordomo@suse.com with this text in its body: unsubscribe suse-linux-e Check out the SuSE-FAQ at <A HREF="http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/</A">http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/</A> and the archiv at <A HREF="http://www.suse.com/Mailinglists/suse-linux-e/index.html</A">http://www.suse.com/Mailinglists/suse-linux-e/index.html</A>

Thanks for posting this, Richard. I figured the problem was related to the video card or the Server and their support/lack of proper support by SO5...based on some stuff I'd been seeing on different lists. I had a supported card, so never had occasion to encounter the problems you and others are experiencing with Matrox.
