Hello all! Since I configured my IMPS/2 Intellimouse in 7.1 I've been having a frustrating problem with X-crashes. It often happens when I got more than one window open at the same time and when I try to move one of them, then everything freezes for a couple of seconds, then the screen goes black for a few seconds and the next thing that comes up is the login page. Note: when I leave the computer with the SuSE -> System -> unspecified -> Screensaver (XScreensaver I assume) for more than 15-20 minutes it probably crashes because when I'm back it's got the login page up. Any ideas what this can be? Cheers, ei -- @~~~~ EagleIce ~~~~ gnu4u@linux.nu ~~~~ Running SuSE Linux 7.1 ~~~~@ @~ Webmaster <http://erin.se> ~~ <http://www.inspired-leadership.com> ~@
Hi EI: I could be wrong but it sounds like you have a 3D video card that is not configured for 3D. The IMPS/2 mouse should work just fine: your pointer section should look like this: Section "InputDevice" Driver "mouse" Identifier "Mouse[1]" Option "Device" "/dev/mouse" Option "InputFashion" "Mouse" Option "Name" "WHEEL MOUSE (PS/2)" Option "Protocol" "IMPS/2" Option "Vendor" "MICROSOFT" Option "ZAxisMapping" "4 5" EndSection I would suggest looking at /var/log/XFree86.0.log and seeing if there are any warnings. These will be denoted by (WW) at the beginning of the line like so: (WW) The directory "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/cyrillic" does not exist. Entry deleted from font path. I get this warning because I don't have Cyrillic fonts installed. On Monday 19 March 2001 08:32, you wrote:

Hi again EI: I think I have the answer to the problem. It may be that when you configured your IMPS/2 that it started with a fresh XF86Config file and left out the line Load "glx" from the Moduls section. Section "Module" Load "type1" Load "speedo" Load "extmod" Load "freetype" Load "glx" EndSection On Monday 19 March 2001 08:32, you wrote:

EI, I had the same problem. My cure was two fold: 1) My ATI r128 claims to be 3D, but the 4.x XFree86 only supports 2D 2) I selected the highest resolution my card and monitor could give me. When I reinstalled using sax2 without clicking the 3D option buttion, and dropped back to 1240X780 on the screen resolution I regained my usual rock solid screen.
