I didn't follow this thread, so your post was the first to show up in my NUA. I got curious and read your blog entry. I have to tell you that you did not put forward any argument or "evidence" that "inefficient filesystem layout of data" [on the operating system level] is the culprit for slow KDE start up. It may be the operating system, it may be some stupid way how KDE applications organize their session properties. There is more to benchmarks than whining about long startup times and detecting that the amount of files accessed might have something to do with it. Just my 0.02 EUR. Joachim PS: I agree that Duaine's whining about off-shore outsourcing to Indian developers is misplaced on this list, though he and his wife have my sympathies.
