I'm using 9.0. I'm sure this must of happen to more than one person: I'm unable to setup a usb scanner because the list is empty Why is the scanner list empty when I goto: Start Applications System YaST -or- /sbin/yast2 as root Hardware Scanner select "USB Scanner" Next I get this "YaST coult not load the USB scanner module automatically" So, it tellms me to select a scanner from the list, *BUT* the list is empty. Has anyone seen this, or know what I might do. Thank you, Carlos
Which scanner is it? Cheers, Steve. On Saturday 27 December 2003 15:27, Carlos Villegas wrote:

Today I found the solution for my problem with Apacer Handy Steno 2.0. I "discover" that inside the box has a CD and on CD one application to format the device. It is for Windows (I tried to run with Wine without success) and is on the directory FD_Utility. I do a full format and now it is work right on SuSE 9.0. Thadeu

Well, if you are looking for something for a "newbie" to install then the 128 IS fine. But if you are looking for better quality sound AND still have a hassle-free install by a "newbie" then consider the Sondblaster Audigy. I have that installed on my computer and it installs just as easily as the 128 -- plus the sound is MUCH MUCH better. Cheers. -- Indecision is the key to flexibility.

As far as I know, The Audigy is not well supported. The SuSE support hardware database shows unknown http://hardwaredb.suse.de/showProduct.php?LANG=en_UK&searchtype=simple&product_id=24761&arch_id=&dist_id=&PHPSESSID=4eb91d7bff1a123a1dab0c2101d6566a
Searching Creative gets nothing for this card and I remember at one time I found an open source audigy project that said support for audigy was only partial but now I can't even find that project. Can anyone confirm that the Audigy really is _fully_ supported (not play only) as you say? I gave up on the audigy. I found just last night from this list and the SuSE hardware database that the SB Live was fully supported. Since I had one of those available, I installed it and found that it worked perfectly. As for the original subject, I have one of those cards in another computer with SuSE 9.0 and it is working with no trouble. Damon Register

You read too many suse hardware databases :-) . Don't read the damn thing - I gave up reading it loooong ago because it is so way out of date that it isn't enough funny but rather sad.

You shouldn't given up on the Audigy because when I installed it Suse recognised it and all I had to do is to install the (mandatory) sound founts and test the volume settings. In fact, I look at the Sound details and Suse shows me "Audigy Player/Running". So, YES, Audigy is fully supported. Ah, what I should mention here is that I am running Suse v9.0 (Pro). Which version are you running?

Well I don't use 9.0 but I've got the SB 128 PCI working on 8.2 and it installed fine. Took no configuration at all on my part. I just had to decide how loud I wanted the volume.
