What kind of mouse? What kind of keyboard? What kind of connections/ports? It is easyer to get help if you describe the hardware.
The mouse is a three button Logitech Mouseman. The keyboard is VA LInux oem that appears to be standard. Yast identifies it as type PC 104. The connectors go to PS/2 ports. I neglect to mention that I have two PCs and a mac connected to a Belkin OmniCube for common use of keyboard, mouse, and monitor. The monitor is a NECMultiSync FP950. Both PCs have been running RedHat without any problem.
If you haven't got anything on a USB port then you shouldn't have to worry about some messages on it during bootup.
I would think so too. But it seems very strange that enabling the USB IRQ lets me get a lot further without a freeze of kb and mouse. I veriied this again yesterday. Thanks for your response .....Jack
Stupid question about the USB port...did you enable assign IRQ for USB in the BIOS? And did you set pnp BIOS to no? If you have done both...*shrug*. Matt On Wed, 31 Jan 2001, Jack Reilly wrote:

I have tried the installation with and without the IRQ for USB being disabled. Until tonite the pnp BIOS has been set to "no". . With the IRQ disabled I lose the kb and mouse when I try to make a correction to the test screen following the Desktop settings. With IRQ enabled I can make the correction and get all the way to the login and the welcome. I can open an application but after a couple of clicks or typing I get the freeze. Tonite after your question I tried an installation with the IRQ disabled and set the the pnp to yes. I was able to do the correction to the test screen (first time without the IRQ) and open an application. Then after I did a couple of clicks...no kb no mouse. Thanks for your question. If you have any more pls fire away Jack On Wed, 31 Jan 2001, you wrote:
