I did a Yast update on my 9.2 system, and once again one user can not launch a browser. The last time I was informed it was something to do with a gcc update, but I deleted the info. So, bing as I grew up in the 60-70's, most brain cells are gone, and I can not remember the rpm I had to install (backup) to to fix it. Anyone out there able to help? Blushingly yours, Harry G

Yes indeed it has. I did the latest YOU update this afternoon and once again thunderbird fails! There is no error message involved; just the thunderbird icon scrolling on the desktop icon and then thunderbird appearing on the desktop for a portion of a second, then ending. Last time it was a removal of thunderbird followed by a re-installation. The problem affected both thunderbird and firefox last time and I've not attempted to re-install firefox in the meantime, using mozilla instead. This time mozilla was unaffected. About three to five days after the last time this problem occurred there was an unannounced fix, in the form of another update, that was provided courtesy of YOU. I'm thinking this might occur again, but it sure would be nice if this was occurring. Meanwhile, since this is in my office machine, I'll play with it and report back what solution set I find. dave -- David C. Upon up a terminal and launch thunderbird from that, and see if there is an error message. When my apps misbehave, I find that this is a good way of finding out what it's doing.

This probably reflects a bug in the program. The error was 'BadPixmap (invalid Pixmap parameter)'. (Details: serial 1474 error_code 4 request_code 56 minor_code 0) (Note to programmers: normally, X errors are reported asynchronously; that is, you will receive the error a while after causing it. To debug your program, run it with the --sync command line option to change this behavior. You can then get a meaningful backtrace from your debugger if you break on the gdk_x_error() function.) The 2 Gecko lines repeat 9 times before jumping to the line starting "The Program ...." and then returning to the shell prompt. Somehow it would seem that the updates are messing with the Gecko engine. I'm not familiar enough with Gecko to know how to hack the problem, but hopefully this will help someone at SuSE to perhaps post a fix in the next couple of days. Exactly what I was getting with Firefox. I ended up completely deleting Firefox (I don't have Thunderbird installed) and then re-installing an older version from the DVD/CD. At this point in time I'm sorry but I don't remember whether I have downloaded directly from Mozilla or not but I suspect I did and this worked (Ithink). I finally figured out it was the gtk-qt-engine-0.5-9.3.i586.rpm I had to backup to last time. Reinstalled, but still no go. When trying to launch Firefox from a term I get: MozPlugger: Failed to execute m4. MozPlugger: Failed to execute m4.
