Well check with 'df /usr' -- Richard Bos Without a home the journey is endless

Hi Richard, Nope, df /usr says I've got 238 megabytes left. Besides, the only thing in /usr concerning kernel-source are docs. Surely there are not 29 megs of docs. The meat of kernel-source is found in /var which is a completely separate partition on my system. Soooooo, I still have no idea why apt tells me it needs 29 megs in /usr. Anyone ??? Any ideas ?? What happens if you use plain /usr/bin/rpm to install the rpm? - cd to /var/cache/apt/archives - rpm kernel-source-2.6.8-24.10*rpm I think you get the same error msg =>if so this would mean that rpm is confused. -- Richard Bos Without a home the journey is endless

Yep, tried that. Same result. So I then did a Yast update for the kernel which installed fine. Went back and deleted the kernel stuff in apt/archives and proceeded with the upgrade which worked just fine. Thanks for the input Richard. It is appreciated. Wonder if anyone else had this strange problem ?? Bob S.

More info on the original thread. I know there is enough space on /usr (which really shouldn't have anything to do with the upgrade - I think) so I went directly to the /apt/archives and tried to install with Yast. Yast asked me to insert Disk 1 and then couldn't find it. Gave up on that. Then tried with Kpackage by right-clicking directly on the file and choosing "open with Kpackage". Kpackage starts and opens, shows the file, tries to install it, and then told me the file didn't exist ! That is strange ! Must the kernel-default be installed before the kernel-source ? Just making wild guesses here. I would guess not. Besides when apt installs it installs as a group and all of the files are there. Maybe I should jut try a YOU update or download the files directly from SuSE, but they are huge files. Anybody have any idea what could be going on here ?? Bob S.
