I face the problem for SuSE 8.2 / 9.0 Installation on my Compaq Proliant 1600 Server with 2xPIII-500 CPU / 256MB RAM. Each time, it will be hang on "starting HotPlug Service" in startup. How can I stop it service manually. I have tried to boot from CD and mount the volume and then edit /etc/sysconfig/hotplug file, but it still start when it boot up. Please advice. I would like to install SuSE 9.0 on this Server. Thanks a lot Best Regards, Andy

Faced with a similar situation, I moved /etc/init.d/hotplug to / to get around it. I'm not clear if this problem happens also on boot from (SuSE) CD - I booted using timos rescuecd. You could also find another box that would boot with the particular HD as /dev/hdc e.g, mount it and mv the file, then put it back into the Proliant and boot up. Regards Sid. -- Sid Boyce .... Once the system is booted, as root, do insserv -r hotplug. Ed Harrison SuSE 9.0, Kernel 2.4.21-99 PolarBar Mailer 1.25a
