Re: [SLE] has anybody used WINE
As Stewart has written, I use Codeweavers version of wine and I am
able to run Quicken 2000 Deluxe, sol, Delphi5 Prof, but not much
else.

What is the best download version to download to run on Suse
there seems to be at least half a dozen.
I am looking forward to the day ONE install package will do ALL versions, So Linux users are not screwed over any more

Hi,
I use the Codeweavers release, but only for one programme - Quicken - which is the reason for an entire Windows setup/dual boot etc.
i have found generally that once you find a version that does what you want stick with it. I have yet to find a version of Wine that will cope with attemting to open any Win programme that takes your fancy.

Can someone tell me whether WINE or Win4Lin will let me run AutoCadLT, EZNec (an antenna analysis program), Eudora, or various DOS based programs? I don't care if I have to pay for Win4Lin, I just want a program that works. Last time I tried WINE it was seriously broken. At 20:08 09/22/2001 -0400, kbb0927@cs.com wrote:

Doug, The different versions of WINE tend to be more usable for different programs. This is because MS seems to change things up pretty regular and therefore when they get something right for one prog. and they go in to work on another, things often get broken, On thier website they have a list of programs and thier current status for usability with WINE. I suggest going to www.winehq.com and seeing what it has to say about your programs on the different versions. Austin Morgan On Sat, Sep 22, 2001 at 11:21:30PM -0400, Doug McGarrett wrote:

You just hit on the big problem of ever trying to achieve some level of compatibility with Window's Applications. Bill keeps changing the rules! As some would argue here, it is not Wine the is broken, it is is Windows. Now, if we could just get the Linux community of developers to quit changing the rules... Austin Morgan wrote:

Well, I haven't tried it in a while, but when I last went to the winehq, it said that a lot of things worked, and when I tried, they didn't, so where does that leave me? F'rinstance, when last I tried it, WINE could not deal with a program that kept its files in a subdirectory. (AutoCadLt) I happen to like Eudora, but since it directly interfaces with the network, it may not work in WINE--I haven't actually tried. The only truly DOS programs I use any more are programs written in BASIC that do engineering design or analysis. (I have actually forgotten most of poor old Wordstar's commands!) Linux's BASIC doesn't work with these, and I'm not about to try and rewrite them all, so dosemu might answer that small part of the question. --doug At 10:13 09/23/2001 -0500, you wrote:
