New SuSE 8.0 install. I loaded the lilo loader to a floppy and to the MBR on /dev/hda. In both instances I get the splash screen with choices of linux, failsafe, memtest and Windows 98. After I make a choice the screen turns black and Loading linux .............................................. <new line> s (lowercase s) and it hangs there. What's up? It probably can't find the kernel on /dev/hda. What does your lilo.conf say? -- use Perl; #powerful programmable prestidigitation

My /etc/lilo.conf
boot = /dev/hda change-rules reset read-only menu-scheme = Wg:kw:Wg:Wg lba32 prompt timeout = 100 message = /boot/message
My thoughts: Can you boot the system from a rescue disk, select "boot installed system", then once booted run "lilo" to implement the lilo.conf? Does it report an error? If not, do you have an old bios, that can't boot above the 1024 cylinder limit, or do you have /boot mounted on a small /dev/hda1 to get under the limit? -- use Perl; #powerful programmable prestidigitation
