[opensuse] mirroring issue - I got directed to a mirror in Bangladesh??
I have no issue with that as such, except it is abominably slow (about 13k/second), but surely that's not exactly geographical proximity? -- Per Jessen, Zürich (0.3°C) http://www.dns24.ch/ - free dynamic DNS, made in Switzerland. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

Just wondering out loud - any chance this is ipv6 related? The client I'm downloading from is on ipv6. -- Per Jessen, Zürich (0.6°C) http://www.hostsuisse.com/ - dedicated server rental in Switzerland. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

Yes, this is related to IPv6. There's even a bug report on it (bugs 911072 and 911575). It seems that mirror-brain does not do geo-location for IPv6. I have added an entry to "/etc/hosts": 195.135.221.134 download.opensuse.org With that entry, the initial connection uses IPv4. But after redirect to a mirror, it can still use IPv6. This makes a big difference. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

I had a gut feeling that would be it. I have another that there simply is no geo-location data available for IPV6 (yet). -- Per Jessen, Zürich (-0.8°C) http://www.hostsuisse.com/ - dedicated server rental in Switzerland. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

I have written to admin@opensuse.org and proposed we stop publishing an IPv6 address for download.opensuse.org. It is doing more harm than good. -- Per Jessen, Zürich (-1.8°C) http://www.dns24.ch/ - free dynamic DNS, made in Switzerland. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org
