Re: [SLE] FireFox broken, is SuSE Pro becoming a test bed like Fedora?
Looping this back into the list in case it helps someone. Hope you don't mind. Preston On Wed, 2005-04-27 at 18:21 -0400, David Johanson wrote:

I did a YOU update this afternoon and IMMEDIATELY after it completed I lost BOTH firefox and thunderbird. Could you kindly explain HOW you did what you stated, the rolling back part, so I can "re-install" the appropriate files to get thunderbird and firefox back. Your assistance would be MOST appreciated.
Well, I first uninstalled them. So... rpm -e MozillaFirefox rpm -e WhateverThunderbirdIsCalledInYast2AddRemoveApps Then I went into the directory /var/lib/YaST2/you/mnt/i386/update/9.2/rpm/i586/ and installed the last version that worked. cd /var/lib/YaST2/you/mnt/i386/update/9.2/rpm/i586/ rpm -Uvh MozillaFirefox-1.0.1-9.1.i586.patch.rpm
I'm running SuSE 9.2 and had all the updates current from about a week (maybe 2) back. After the update I'm getting LOTS of error messages all suggesting that there are lots of problems with the gecko engine, at least that's how I'm interpreting what I'm seeing.
Not sure about the gecko engine. I did notice that one of the updates had to do with the gnome-filesystem. I thought that was odd. I wonder if that could be the source of some of the headaches you and others are seeing. Preston

Did you update gtk-qt-engine to 0.6cvsomething from 0.5.9? I found that tarded many things, including firefox, thunderbird, nvu, gimp, etc. I've heard the same from others. -- George Barnett Reality Engineer m: (+44) 778 884 7205 e: george@alink.co.za "At a recent meeting in Snowmass, Colorado, a participant from Los Angeles fainted from hyperoxygenation, and we had to hold his head under the exhaust of a bus until he revived."
